Lead/Follow

To lead you may not need people walking behind you...

By following I do not mean that you are walking behind someone...

So what exactly am I pointing to you..

When somebody shouting at you in a market or public place, we normally do shout back don't we? isn't that following the other person's(who started shouting at us) path that we are following?

While driving at our normal economy speed and suddenly someone over takes our vehicle, we fight back and rush towards that vehicle to over take it. Isn't that following?

What I'm trying to say that it is more threat that we follow others thoughts/choices blindly which alters our character for a while if not permanently.

The term To Lead I use here doesn't mean that you should have followers, nor that it mean you require the talent of a leader. Everyone is born capable of leading themselves. So in situation like those can't we think better and show our own character rather than following the other persons path?

Rather than shouting back can't I think "how would I react to the situation if I were at the other persons place"? and then react.

If I had chose to drive carefully and in a steady economic manner why should I alter my decision when someone over takes us?

words does have a lot contextual meaning all it depends on is how you look at it, isn't it?

Define your selfs and let the definition lead you, stop following other persons decisions without having a second thought about it.

As always friends do leave comments, it does help me a lot.

Freedom

Yes I have the freedom

Yes I have the freedom to break the traffic laws(the public secret is to bribe the traffic police)

Yes I have the freedom to break any law(the secret here is to keep the Govt. Officer(s) happy and the media away)

Yes I have the freedom to not worry about my duties(the secret is no one cares when one doesn't do his/her duty but does so when it comes for their rights)

Yes I have the freedom to use the public properties the way I want it(the secret here is that individual only cares about the private properties, do what you want with the public properties)

Yes, I have the freedom to live the way I want(the secret here is to acquire the ability to keep the governing people happy be it money or something else)

Yes I have the freedom of voting, but do I know who I'm giving the power to govern us? Does he/she care about Freedom(detailed above :)) or the Responsibilities/Duties more? Have you ever seen/known
him/her doing anything for the public? Have you known him/her in anyway so you can trust? Are elections a lucky draw? Do I really have no option other than choosing one from the candidates?

With great power comes greater responsibility

With great power comes greater responsibility. Nature gave us the former and we have been and are ignoring the latter.

Its time to think of energy in whatever form as not an entity that can be bought, but a resource that we share equally with others. Often its been the case that if I have the money I can afford wasting these resource.

We are the only living thing that is responsible for the term "Global Warming". It has never been that evident before the effects of Global Warming, now we need to grow two trees(a wild guess) at the place where there was one to completely reverse still it would take time.

I have been reading about "Save Tiger" and few had asked me "why is that creature of such importance while there are other endangered species as well". For that I would say that Tiger shares the topmost position in a food chain and if we find a healthy tiger in a forest that would indicate that the forests has abundance of all other species as well. Other peculiarity of tiger is that it is a solitary animal which means they will live most part of their life in the wild alone and they have a behavior of killing each other for supremacy hence the rarity and the poor population growth ratio.

Thats all I can grab right now before my mind gives in to sleep...friends do comment and do your part for the

3 Idiots, a great attempt to make people think....

Last weekend I got lucky to see the movie "3 Idiots". Loved most part of the movie and would recommend it to all my friends.

This movie does continue the path of sending out message as did "Taare Zameen Par", its a must watch for people who only "study" and never understands what they study. It puts light on the need to give more importance to the originality, creativity, application when we learn.

When I look back I remember few things that I learnt from school/college, seen application or applied it myself. Now did others only wasted my time? surely some were if not all. The appeal is not against the teaching material alone, the methods that we use to teach young ones, the emphasis given to mark one scores. Do the schools and colleges ever mind if the pupil understand and use the knowledge that they memorize for the exams alone and never digests it. I bet there aren't many who care what the pupil understands.

The parents needs to understand a simple fact that one becomes only capable when he learns something but excels only if he understands and loves what he does. Now back to the movie, the character of Farhaan(Madhavan) was a good wildlife photographer but his family forced him to be an Engineer. The scene where he convinces his father that he doesn't enjoy being a Engineer and loves to be a photographer does tell it all. Another sequence that I loved is the Interview of Raju(Sharmaan Joshi) is a touchy one as well. The mantra "All is Well" does say all these in a funny manner.

At last the School of Rancho(Aamir) will amuse people, and throws light into application of technology for simple things. Most often we think of big things and never think of simple solutions that can be useful to more people.

If you are reading this do share your thoughts....

I'm a Veggie

I had been a Non - Vegetarian since I was child which I gave up few years earlier...

Here are a few things that made me do it, all of which does not have substantial evidence as I haven't made any research work on this.

Bio Magnification
This is a term which I learned in my schools. You can go thru the Wikipedia(Click the link above) if you want to learn more of it. Other similar terms are
Bioaccumulation , Bioconcentration etc.

More expensive
You will be spending more energy to cook the meat than any Vegetarian food(I do not have any Veg in my list that takes longer, do let me know if there is one). I do not have stats to pile it here, but its evident enough to me to say that.

Rights
During lunch with my friends(often that is the case), all my friends have commented "All edible thing in this world is for man to eat". I give back a smile for them

Aren't we hiding the greedy self inside us with that belief/comment?
doesn't every being in this world have the same right to live as we do?
Are we superior enough to kill those living things just for the pleasure of its taste?

More prone to Health Issues
Most outlets or so called Fast-Food centres doesn't always are up to it when it comes to the properly preparing cooked food, and are real bad to our health more than the joy it gives for few moments. More diseases that are transmitted thru animals are making it to the list than ever before and its not that hard to believe that quitting Non-Veg is a good thing to do.

Attitude
Attitude does play a big role in whatever small or big thing we do, so does it in this case as well. Most of my friends had this dialogue whenever I recommended them to quit the non-veg foods "Why are we working so hard in life? its to njoi life so enjoi the food, feel the taste, is Veg food good enough to replace the Non-Veg foods?"

Have asked them whether they are living to eat? or eating to live? in return, that's what my attitude have been when it comes to food. I do break that rule sometimes when it comes to sweets ;-).

Conclusion : I'm happy being a Vegetarian and never had to look back since I gave up Non-Vegs.

Grow Old or Grow up

There is always a choice...

A story that I felt is worthy sharing.

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.

She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of children, and then retire and travel."

"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and share a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know."

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began: "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only few secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. "You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dean and don't even know it!"

"There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change."

"Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the years end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Remember : GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY, GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

So when do we actually start Growing Up?
